Water is the most widely used heat transfer fluid in medium to low temperature systems. Its chemical and physical properties allow it to be employed in countless contexts. With the addition of chemical additives, water can be kept liquid even below its freezing point. This makes it a usable fluid in cooling systems as well.
Water up to 110°C is the most widely used heat transfer fluid, and therefore, its application can be leveraged in countless cases.
Water systems can be built using readily available components, reducing installation and maintenance costs.
Water heated above 110°C is called superheated water. To maintain water in a liquid state at these temperatures, it must be kept at a pressure higher than its equilibrium pressure (boiling point).
For this reason, superheated water systems are subject to the same constraints as steam systems. In fact, a superheated water system must provide the same safety guarantees as a steam system. Consequently, superheated water is rarely used at temperatures exceeding 220°C.
With a design pressure of 25 bar, water can be used up to 220°C.
